Here's What I Think:
There is a truth that the collective consciousness, much of the media, many teachers, religious or political leaders and spiritual gurus and even our own particular upbringing would have us believe. And there are other Truths. (If you'll remember, we’ve recently been schooled by a former talking head on the news, that there are other truths, alternative truths. I know I laughed when I heard her say that because most of us have always believed that the truth is The Truth and there can only be one. But at the same time I recognized the irony that there was some truth to that alternative concept).
The almost universally agreed upon current truth generates and thrives on fear and loathing, undermines the common global good, grabs, takes and uses, hijacks basic human rights, talks about peace while funding discord and wars, applauds haters and reactionaries and allows non-human paper entities legal rights and freedom to rape, pillage and plunder the earth which includes every creature on it, as well as onward into the great beyond.
This is the conspiracy theory of the lower astral plane. It's vested in an Us against Them mind-set. It's gotten us used to 'no' and ‘can’t’ as a first thought imposed upon us by narrow bigoted ideologies. We've been led to believe in scarcity as the rule. We’ve been told that human nature is, by its very nature, depraved. We have accepted that power corrupts. We think money is real. We don’t like this theory, but we live with it, eat it, have it endlessly beamed into our homes and downloaded into our consciousness.
Every once in a while some of us make a feeble protest that wilts under the weight and retribution of this wretched dominant truth. Other times many of us will join together to make demands predicated on fairness, justice, compassion, healing and love. But even with greater numbers the effort is still maligned, ridiculed, squelched by that old oppressive world order.
But it’s just a conspiracy even though its hold on us is a loud obnoxious presence appearing to be our reality. It is only one reality, only one truth and we've become so accustomed to it that we can be numbed by the constant onslaught of horror it perpetuates. But I would like to believe that there is another way to think about the Truth that consistently gives the currently dominant conspiracy theory a run for its money. Every now and then this other enchanting conspiracy’s existence and successes are reported, albeit so rarely that most people have no idea of it’s vast potentialities.
This other Truth is one that conspires to uplift and enhance the lives of every living creature on this living breathing planet. This conspiracy is outrageously dangerous to the common deception and because of its power, this Truth is called a lie by the current contagion in power. The brilliance of this other conspiring, if given half a chance, could undermine the entire current conspiracy that has a stranglehold on what has constituted the truth.
Here’s why it's so powerful: It's Hopeful. It's for Everyone. It’s fun. It’s alive and lively. It’s a breath of fresh air. It’s idealistic. It’s catchy. It’s lovely and loving. It’s a chance for freedom. It’s a shot at redemption. It’s cost is affordable. It asks one simple thing: Change your mind. Change your personal theory. Change your perspective. Do it if you want to, do it because you can, do it because you have the right and the power to do so!
Is that easy? It absolutely can be. Just say; Yes. OK. Why not? Wow! Just change it. Decide that in this Truth, there is a loving Presence that wants you to be well, to be happy, to be prosperous, to be free from fear and want, to love, to feel joy, to experience pleasure, to laugh, to create, to have a chance.
One of the most alluring and powerful aspects of this more inclusive conspiracy theory is that there is no one person or entity orchestrating it or pulling it’s strings. This Truth recognizes the wisdom and power and glory in All. Its leadership is circular and collaborative and asks only that every crazy believer recognize this one unalienable Truth; You are it. You are the one. You are the wisdom and the power and the creator and the leader. You are the Truth.
This Perspective of Truth, that is considered by the current sinister conspiracy to be the lunatic fringe, has one basic simple commandment: Take good care. That’s essentially it. It suggests that we consider our stewardship of all creation as a noblesse oblige. And why wouldn’t we want to take care of this creation that supports our very existence. And why wouldn’t we take care of what we have manifested from this creation? And why wouldn't we want all of us to have a chance to experience the care and understanding and opportunity to share in the best of life?
I’ll wager many thinkers may consider this conspiring perspective simplistic and naïve, pointing out as the true reality; the obvious suffering, pain and despair that constitutes the lives of the largest percentage of beings on this planet. Of course, there is no denying that aspect of our the current reality. We witness it and we live it. That’s what the dominant conspiracy hath wrought. But even amidst the pain, poverty, suffering, loss and despair many live with, there is the choice to change one’s personal theory, change one's perspective. Many people who have been enslaved, tortured or persecuted and lived, have told how, even after living through hell, they came to realize that it was their choice on how to process that reality and find the goodness in the world, and in their lives. Many have then reached out to help others to not only survive but find a way through the agony of their experience and find meaning and joy in living.
When that can happen, when that sliver of changed perspective grasps a lifeline and hangs on tight with the faintest hint of a victory smile, then the shift in consciousness is born and we find the essence of beauty and Truth that has been hidden from view. The difficulty and discipline is in continuing to hang onto this affirming conspiracy in spite of the onslaught of heavily funded contrariness the current dominant truth theory uses to entrance us.
We have to search for The Good News. But it's there. It's the kids who have lived through horrific school shootings now pushing policy on gun control. It's the the kids waking up to realize their home on Earth is being destroyed and activating for climate change awareness and action. It's the leaders and advocates for the basic human rights; a home, enough to eat, an education, asylum. It's the brave souls who put their own lives on the line to save children, migrants, the enslaved, the abandoned, only to mention a fraction of those working tirelessly for a more compassionate welcoming of our multicultural diversity. It's those who advocate and teach that understanding and accepting our human differences and just as importantly, our similarities is what makes this world the incredibly interesting, creative, innovative, glorious place it is, or at least could and should be.
Yes, no doubt the Truth of this more magnanimous way of viewing our world is up against it like a bee buzzing against a closed window, able to see the way home but unable to find a way through. We can decide to throw open the window, break down the barriers and make way for the unlimited possibilities and potential for anyone who desires to join the collaborative effort.
Time is of the essence. There will always be consequences to our actions. Which conspiracy theories rule your world? No matter how grueling, exhausting, or disheartening the mess of the world is now, the one thing we always have is the freedom of choice in how to think, what to believe, how to feel and where to put our energies for change. Progressive or regressive? It's a choice. As the lyrics of one of my beloved brother's songs says: You can't go back and change the storyline, you can't go back and change the hands of time. You can't go back to the start of the unbroken heart.
But we can write a new story, sing a new song and make way for a better world by doing whatever we can to heal and steward this one. Let's get to work for the greater common global good, shall we? There are many avenues to pursue. We can each find the one that makes our heart sing a song of freedom and helps us to realize our potential for positive change. I wish for myself and any other, the courage and determination to start wherever we are, wherever we can to create order out of chaos and make our live a contribution of Love and Peace on Earth.
